The world’s most viewed TED Talk. In GIFs!
I just can’t reblog this enough. If I filled up my tumblr with just this it wouldn’t be enough. Most of all I wish I could tell my immediate family about this because they perpetuate me growing out of creativity -.-
If you haven’t seen this TED Talk, I highly recommend it.
One of the things I’ve really focused on as a parent is making sure my kids know that making lots of mistakes is the best way to learn something new. If you get something on the first try it might be exciting, but you haven’t really learned anything. This is definitely something I was not taught as a child, unfortunately, which made me averse to trying anything new out of a fear of failure. It’s taken me a long time to retrain my thoughts to not take errors as huge blows to my self-confidence.
My kids deserve better. All kids deserve better. ~JJ
Mistakes mean you are trying and that is never wrong.
Since I was little I was taught mistakes are good because it gives room to success, and without mistakes life would be pretty boring. I hope others teach like my parents did, I know if I ever have kids I’ll pass it along.
“I got a fan letter from a young lady. It was a suicide note.
So I called her, and I said, “Hey, this is Jimmy Doohan. Scotty, from Star Trek.” I said, “I’m doing a convention in Indianapolis. I wanna see you there.”
I saw her — boy, I’m telling you, I couldn’t believe what I saw. It was definitely suicide. Somebody had to help her, somehow. And obviously she wasn’t going to the right people.
I said to her, “I’m doing a convention two weeks from now in St. Louis.” And two weeks from then, in somewhere else, you know? She also came to New York - she was able to afford to got to these places. That went on for two or three years, maybe eighteen times. And all I did was talk positive things to her.
And then all of the sudden — nothing. I didn’t hear anything. I had no idea what had happened to her because I never really saved her address.
Eight years later, I get a letter saying, “I do want to thank you so much for what you did for me, because I just got my Master’s degree in electronic engineering.”
That’s…to me, the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
I just saw a post about Barbara Park’s passing and I had to make a post in remembrance of this wonderful women. She was the reason I fell in love with reading around a decade ago. Thank you Barbara for inspiring me and countless other children to read, you and your works will be sorely missed.
Barbara died after a long fight with ovarian cancer. If you would like to donate to the charity she helped create to support others who are affected by this terrible disease you can here: http://www.sistersinsurvival.org/
So, around yesterday night we received some tragic news regarding a family member of ours. My uncle had passed away for reasons still unknown. All we know is that he was found two days ago from this date near a jogging trail. He was a great person and artist and my dad’s youngest and only brother. The family is truly mourning his loss as am I. The other unfortunate news and main point is that our family is tight on money and we don’t have enough for a decent, much less at least, a funeral for him. Other family members are pitching in what they can as well as I, but it still won’t be enough, so I will see what I can try to get from commissions. My paypal commissions are up along with the link to my paypal: http://pikaconst.deviantart.com/journal/Commission-Time-Paypal-open-397333964
However, I am more than willing to do up to two commissions for the same price of one and will draw pretty much anything in any style. They will be posted on my tumblr art blog: http://pikaconst.tumblr.com/ and deviantart (with your permission of course). Thank you
